Use of AI (artificial intelligence) is strictly prohibited. Entries may not be generated, co-written, or materially assisted by AI tools (including, by way of example only, large language models, text generators, or similar technologies). Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to use one or more third-party tools, internal review processes, or other methods to assess whether an entry appears to have been generated or materially assisted by AI. If Sponsor determines, in its sole discretion, that an entry was generated or materially assisted by AI, or that an entry otherwise violates these content requirements, the entry will be disqualified. Sponsor may utilize GPT Zero, or other third-party AI detection tool, to aid in its AI-review. Any essay that includes AI usage at sixty percent (60%) or higher will be disqualified.
Entries must be received by Sponsor no later than 11:59:59 PM EST on November 1, 2026. Any attempt by a person to use multiple identities, fraudulent transactions, or cancelled transactions to gain more entries than permitted by these Official Rules shall result in disqualification in Sponsor's sole discretion. By participating, entrants warrant and represent that they agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the final decisions of the Sponsor. Entry information becomes the exclusive property of Sponsor upon submission. Proof of submission of entry does not constitute proof of receipt of entry.
Sponsor will review all eligible entries received during the Entry Period and apply the following criteria to determine the first-round score. Sponsor will evaluate entries using the following criteria:
- Personal Story (50%) — Strength and authenticity of the entrant's personal story, including his or her life journey, current circumstances, and why those factors make the entrant a strong candidate to own and care for the Prize land and cabin in Maine.
- Grammar (25%) — Overall writing quality, including organization, clarity, spelling, punctuation, and grammatical accuracy.
- Creativity (25%) — Originality and thoughtfulness of the entrant's vision for how he or she intends to use the Prize land and cabin in Maine, and what makes the entrant stand out from other candidates.
The top one hundred (100) entries will proceed to a second round where their essays will be scored by a panel of three (3) judges — Dorothy Drobney (teacher), Laura Bilodeau (published author), and Tara Goodrich (teacher) — who will independently review and score those entries using the same criteria and weightings listed above. The panel will not receive the first-round scores of the top one hundred (100) essays. The tie-breaker will remain the same. The one (1) potential winner will be based on the highest overall score of the second round.
Entries will be judged solely on the criteria described above as compared to other eligible entries received during the Entry Period. In the event of a tie in total score, the entry with the higher Personal Story score will be ranked higher. If the Personal Story scores are also tied, the entry with the higher Grammar score will be ranked higher. If a tie still remains, Sponsor and the judging panel may apply such further tie-breaking procedures as they deem fair and appropriate in their sole discretion, including having the tied-finalists submit a second essay to be scored using the same criteria and tie-breakers set forth above. The winner will be determined and announced within two (2) weeks after the end of the Entry Period. All decisions of Sponsor and the judging panel regarding the Contest, including the selection of the winner, are final and binding in all respects.
The Contest winner will receive a lot of land along with cabins/campgrounds located in Maine (the "Prize") as described below. The Prize includes a 24 x 24 main cabin (with a kitchen, living room, and bedrooms), a 12x24 guest cabin (open room concept), and an Amish-built 12x30 cabin (unfurnished) with utilities which include water, electricity, and a Starlink for internet connectivity. The Land Prize's approximate retail value, based on a recent appraisal/tax assessment is eighty thousand dollars ($80,000 USD) or approximately three thousand nineteen ($3,019 USD) per acre. The Prize is awarded in its "as-is, where-is" condition with no representations or warranties, express or implied, by Sponsor, regarding suitability for building, development, environmental status, access, or any other purpose, except as expressly set forth herein. Winner is advised to conduct independent due diligence regarding the Prize's condition and permitted uses. Winner shall have the right, at winner's sole expense, to inspect the Prize and conduct any desired due diligence (including but not limited to surveys, soil tests, environmental assessments, and zoning verification) prior to acceptance. Winner must notify Sponsor of election to inspect within ten (10) days of notification, and complete inspection within twenty (20) days of notification.
Sponsor represents that, at the time of transfer, title to the Prize will be conveyed to winner by warranty deed as prepared by Trask P.A. DBA Currier, Trask, and Jordan Attorneys at Law ("Closing Agent"). Sponsor will provide to winner a preliminary title commitment from Closing Agent prior to closing, showing Sponsor's commitment to deliver marketable title free of liens and encumbrances at the time of closing, except as disclosed in these Official Rules. A title insurance policy will be provided at winner's expense. All real estate transfer taxes, recording charges, title insurance premiums, survey costs, and all other fees and expenses associated with the transfer of the Prize will be paid by the winner; however, as part of the Prize, Sponsor will also pay the winner a separate cash amount of $25,000 that the winner may use toward such costs or for any other purpose.
Any and all future costs including but not limited to, real estate and property taxes, title insurance, hazard and liability insurance, and any other expenses related to maintenance and ownership of the Prize shall be the sole responsibility of the winner commencing as of the date the Prize is transferred to the winner as set forth in these Official Rules. Winner shall cooperate with Sponsor and the Sponsor's designated Closing Agent to complete the transfer within thirty (30) days of notification. Winner is solely responsible for confirming zoning, development, and use restrictions, and for securing any and all permits required to construct or otherwise use the Prize. Winner's ownership of the Prize is not subject to homeowners' association covenants, assessments, bylaws, or restrictions. If applicable, winner is responsible for compliance with all association obligations and payment of any dues or assessments from and after the transfer date. All required state and local property disclosures regarding environmental conditions, hazardous substances, and any known defects are incorporated herein.
Winner is solely responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes, including but not limited to income and property taxes, arising from the receipt and ownership of the Prize. The Prize's value will be reported to taxing authorities via IRS Form 1099 at the fair market value of $80,000 USD, based on Sponsor's appraisal, plus $25,000 in cash, which will be used for all tax reporting purposes. Sponsor strongly recommends that the winner consults with a tax and/or legal professional prior to accepting the Prize. In the event the winner cannot accept the Prize, Sponsor will permit the winner to elect a cash alternative of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000 USD) in lieu of the Prize. In the event winner selects the alternate cash prize, IRS Form 1099 will reflect the prize value of $50,000. Election of the cash alternative must be made in writing within seven (7) days of notification.
To be eligible to receive the Prize, winner must: (i) be legally able to take title as an individual or entity; (ii) not be otherwise prohibited from land or real estate ownership per applicable law; (iii) timely complete all transfer documents; and (iv) accept all obligations as described in these Official Rules. Receipt of the Prize is at winner's sole risk. Neither Sponsor nor its affiliates, employees, contractors, officers, or agents shall be responsible for any loss, liability, or expense incurred following transfer, including, but not limited to, liability for injuries occurring on the Prize or any subsequent transfers or development.
The Prize will be procured, administered, and distributed by Sponsor as set forth in these Official Rules. The total maximum value of the Prize if the winner accepts the land and cabin is $105,000 ($80,000 for the land and cabin and $25,000 in cash). If the winner elects the cash alternative, the value of the Prize is $50,000. The winner will not receive cash value or any other form of compensation, unless explicitly expressed. No prize transfer. No other prize substitution, except at Sponsor's sole discretion due to unavailability, in which case a prize of comparable or greater value will be awarded. All taxes (including without limitation Federal, state and local taxes) in connection with the Prize, and the reporting consequence thereof, are the sole responsibility of the winner. Prize winner shall sign and return an IRS W-9 form within the time period specified by Sponsor, and such winner will receive an IRS Form 1099 issued in his/her name for the actual value of prizes received if required by law.
The potential winner will be notified by phone and/or email within one (1) day following the announcement of the potential winner, to verify his/her eligibility and ability to accept the Prize. If such a potential winner is not available or if there is no answer at the time any email is sent or phone call is made, a voice message will be left, if possible. Any such email, phone call, or voice message, will instruct the potential winner to call a specified telephone number or reply by email within seven (7) days (measured in the local time zone) after the time that the notification message was left. Potential winner must complete, electronically sign, and submit an Affidavit of Eligibility and IRS form W9 within seven (7) days of the date notice or attempted notice is sent, in order to claim his/her prize.
Potential winner must reply as instructed to identify him/herself, confirm his/her eligibility and ability to accept the Prize, and provide his/her complete contact information within such time period, or he/she will be disqualified. In Sponsor's sole discretion, a potential winner may only be notified one time as set forth above for attempted prize notification. If the potential winner does not respond within the seven (7) day time period, Sponsor reserves the right to award the Prize to another potential winner by way of applying the criteria to the eligible entries. Proof of identity, age, and legal residence may be required to claim the Prize.
Any winner or potential winner may be disqualified in Sponsor's sole discretion if: (a) he/she fails to provide any required information or properly completed documents within the required time period; (b) he/she fails to comply with any of the terms of these Official Rules; or (c) if any Prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, any voicemail or email message left is not timely returned, or any forms sent to potential winner are not timely returned as instructed. In the event of disqualification of a winner or potential winner, at Sponsor's sole discretion the Prize may be awarded to an alternate winner (or runner up) selected from among the remaining applicable eligible entries via the means of winner determination described herein, pending verification of eligibility.
All prizes will be awarded. No responsibility is assumed by Sponsor for any incorrect or missing postal address, email address or phone number associated with an entry, or any change of address, email or phone number of entrant after entry submission. Sponsor will determine any prize details not specified in its sole discretion. Sponsor will not replace any lost, damaged or stolen prizes. Prizes are awarded as-is and without warranty of any kind, implied or express. The Prize will be transferred via Sponsor's Closing Agent.
